CCA Celebrates Five Years

The Council of Churches in Africa (CCA) marked its fifth anniversary with a grand ceremony in Bulawayo, celebrating both the organization’s milestones and the strides made in religious freedom in Zimbabwe. The event saw CCA members praising President Emmerson Mnangagwa for fostering an environment where worship can thrive without fear, highlighting his role in promoting peace and unity across the nation.

CCA leader Rocky Moyo expressed gratitude for the changes under Mnangagwa’s leadership, noting a significant decrease in child marriages and greater unity among churches. Moyo emphasized the importance of small churches joining CCA to support government initiatives, such as building schools and hospitals, which create jobs and improve community welfare. The event also celebrated Mnangagwa’s upcoming chairmanship of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), with hopes for continued peace, development, and unity across the region.

Bishop Leo Muchayedzerwa from St Luke’s Apostolic Church applauded the government for allowing unrestricted worship and enabling church-led developments. Bulawayo Metropolitan Affairs Minister Judith Ncube reiterated the symbiotic relationship between the government and the church, emphasizing that the nation is built by its people working together.
