CCA Leaders Urge Churches to Conform to National Laws and Address Gender-Based Violence

The Council for Churches in Africa (CCA) continues to make significant strides in promoting compliance with national laws and addressing social issues such as gender-based violence among indigenous churches. This call to action was spearheaded by Arch-bishop Dr. Saint Phillip Pferedzai, Executive Chairman for the CCA Bishops Council (Africa), during a major event at the St Luke’s Apostolic Ejiwel Jekenishen Church headquarters.

A Visionary Tour for Change

Arch-bishop Dr. Rocky Moyo, the visionary behind this initiative, has embarked on a countrywide familiarization and engagement tour among CCA affiliates. The tour’s primary goal is to encourage church leaders to operate within the legal and constitutional frameworks of their respective countries. This message resonated powerfully during the annual passover festival at St Luke’s Apostolic Ejiwel Jekenishen Church, which saw an impressive gathering of 75,608 members.

During his address, Dr. Moyo emphasized the importance of churches aligning with the government’s vision and highlighted the need to tackle gender-based violence within church communities. “It is crucial for our churches to not only adhere to the laws of the land but also to take an active role in addressing social issues such as gender-based violence. This is a collective responsibility that we must all uphold,” said Dr. Moyo.

A Gathering of Distinguished Guests

The annual passover festival attracted a diverse group of guests, including government officials, ruling Zanu-PF party leaders, and representatives from the Zimbabwe Republic Police, notably Assistant Commissioner Dr. Doyce. The event also welcomed distinguished guests from neighboring countries Mozambique and South Africa, showcasing the widespread influence and collaboration fostered by the CCA.

The presence of these dignitaries underscored the strong relationship between the church and the state, emphasizing the mutual goal of fostering development and social harmony. The event served as a platform for reinforcing the church’s commitment to supporting government initiatives and contributing to the overall well-being of society.
